What's New?
Common Core Standards
The Common Core Standards were developed cooperatively by the Council of Chief State School Officials and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices. Teachers and experts in education were also heavily involved in creating these standards in mathematics and English/language arts that will create a common framework for teachers and students in the 46 states that have adopted them.

Libertyville District 70 is committed to incorporating the Common Core Standards and identifying grade specific learning objectives that will promote college and career readiness for our students. Parents will continue to receive information regarding the new standards and how they will impact teaching and learning in Libertyville District 70.

Standards-Based Reporting
Standards-based report cards were field-tested in grades K-5 and will be implemented for the 2012-2013 school year. Based upon the Illinois Learning Standards and the Common Core Standards, this new format will enable parents to understand what their students are learning and how they are reaching established learning goals. Parents will receive additional information to assist them during this transition at our fall curriculum nights held at each school.

Gifted Program Revisions
Based upon a continuing desire to expand gifted program services in Libertyville Elementary District 70 and a need to meet the needs of high achieving learners that grew out of strategic planning, gifted program revisions were recommended and approved by the Board of Education of Monday, February 27, 2012.

These recommendations include students remaining in their home school buildings to receive gifted education services from a Gifted Resource teacher both within and outside the general education classroom, and expanding the program to provide services to third grade students. While our identification process will remain the same, students identified as gifted will receive individualized instruction based upon established student goals. Students may experience enrichment and/or acceleration in any or all of reading/language arts, mathematics, social science and science.

The addition of a Gifted Resource teacher in each elementary school will provide assistance to classroom teachers in meeting the unique needs of gifted and high achieving learners, and will allow for enrichment opportunities for students in first and second grade.
